Compton Bluebell Woods

Compton Bluebell Woods

This route was recorded on Monday 20 May 2019 during the U3A Amble
Distance: 3.1 miles (5 km) — OS Route Map

I first saw the bluebells in Bummoor Copse on a U3A plant walk many years ago. They were a wonderful sight so I thought it would be nice to lead an amble to see them again. I extended the walk by turning left up the hill at the bottom of some steep steps by Polstead Manor and then proceeded along the North Downs Way towards Loseley Park.

On my first recce, at the start of April, I saw it was a bit too early for the bluebells at their best and the paths further on were very muddy so I left the group amble to May the following year.

On the day of the amble the weather was perfect and the ground dry everywhere but, alas, by then the bluebells were almost over, though we saw many other lovely flowers on the walk.
