Thursley Common is part of an area classed as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, a National Nature Reserve and it has also been designated as a Ramsar wetland. It’s a great place for all kinds of wildlife.

From the car park at the Moat, there are many possible paths to take onto the commons.  This route takes you along the boardwalks past Pudmore and across Pine Island. There are not that many left now but I remember walking there nearly fifty years ago when Pine Island was covered in pine trees.

The walk took us through open heathland, with peat bogs and pools, and into woodland near Forked Pond.  On the way back, we walked along the army track before turning back onto the boardwalk and Thursley Common.

On the afternoon of my recce, as well as on the morning of the amble a few weeks later, it was rather misty and at times we could hardly see beyond a few metres ahead.  I have included a photo from the recce as well as some from the amble.
